Rājendra-Choladeva I, surnamed Gaṅgai-konda, son and successor of Rājarāja, continued his father's ambitious career, with added vigour and even more conspicuous success. His fleet, crossing the Bay of Bengal, attacked and captured Kadāram (Kidāram), the ancient capital of the kingdom of Prome or Pegu, and also the seaports of Takkolam and Matama, or Martaban, on the same coast.
