The name Pallava resembles Pahlava so closely that some writers have been disposed to favour the hypothesis that Pallavas and Pahlavas were identical, and that consequently the Southern Pallava dynasty of Kānchī should be considered as ultimately of Persian origin. But recent research has failed to adduce any historical facts in support of that notion.
