⁴ In Arr. *Ind.* 4, 11 nearly all the MSS give Πευκελαΐτιδι (for the district), which on the analogy of a number of province-names in -ιτις is preferable to the Πευκελαῶτις of Arr. *Anab.* IV, 22, 7. Various other spellings have been proposed. It was not of course called Peucelaïtis when Alexander arrived; Arrian, as so often, is using the later Greek name proleptically.
