⁵ Skythes has been suggested for the giant. But it is not known that Skythes was half a snake, though his mother was; and in any case he belongs to the Scythians of Europe. O. Stein, *Telephos* 4 in PW, 1934, compares the giant to the Tritons of Hippostratus and of Gandhāra art.
