Maues’ conquest of Gandhāra was not much earlier or much later than 70 B.C. (p. 322), and the Buddha-statue must have been well established before he issued his coin; that dates the Gandhāra Buddha to early in the first century B.C. *at latest*, and that agrees with the already noticed parallelism of some of the Greek ornamentation of Gandhāra art with coins of Telephus and Hippostratus. This means that Foucher’s chronology for the beginning of the Gandhāra school was substantially right.
