⁴ Seric iron was called Margian in 53 B.C. because it reached Parthia through Merv, Orosius VI, 13, 2 combined with Plut. *Crassus* 24. The widespread theory that Seric iron came from the Cheras of southern India (Warmington pp. 157 sq.) cannot stand against this fact. Pliny XXXIX, 15 says that Seric iron was better than that produced in Parthia.
