¹ Strabo XI, 513. Strabo adds that Spitamenes took refuge with the Chorasmii, while Arrian IV, 16, 4 says that he went to the country of the Massagetae; the Chorasmii therefore were already part of the Massagetae confederacy in Alexander’s day.
