¹ Stephanus, s.v. Μάκαι (which is Ras Mussendam), an ἔθνος between Carmania and Arabia; and s.v. Ὤγυρις (the island Khism), whose ethnic he forms on Arabian analogies. Stephanus’ source for these notices is not given, but for this part of the world his usual source is Marcianus, and these notices may therefore ultimately be Hellenistic. Grohmann, Makai in PW, leaves it open where this people came from; Kiessling, Gedrosia in PW, makes them Gedrosians who had migrated to Arabia across the strait.
