⁴ A good case is *SEG* VI, 718 (Pamphylia), Μαλάκου and Μαλάχου (the same man). It is said to occur on Attic vase-inscriptions from the fifth century B.C. onwards (G. Meyer, *Griech. Grammatik*² 1886 p. 209), but that is hardly in point.
