⁵ McDowell, *Coins from Seleucia* p. 96 type 128; the dates run, with gaps, from 103-2 to 84-3 B.C. If Mr McDowell gives an explanation I have missed it; but looking at what is known of the reign of Mithridates II it cannot, one would suppose, mean that Seleuceia was independent, even though the Fortune of the city carries a Victory on her hand. I would sooner connect the privilege in some way with trade; in 106 the first through caravan from China had reached Parthia.
