Accession of Rafiu-d-darajāt.—The first act of the new reign (A.D. 1719) was one of conciliation towards Ajit Singh and the Rajputs, namely, the abrogation of the *jizya*; and the Sayyids further showed their disposition to attach them by conferring the important office of Diwan on one of their own faith : Raja Ratan Chand was accordingly inducted into the ministry in lieu of Inayatu-lla.
