Thirdly, the *Vaṃśāvalī* is worthless for purposes of history, as a few instances will show. It says that Amśuvarman came to the throne in Kali 3000=101 B. C.,³ which is in violent conflict with the testimonies of both Yuan Chwang and the inscriptions. Again, Amśuvarman’s seventh successor, Vīradeva, is said to have ruled in Kaliyuga 3623 or 522 A. D.,⁴ and thus we have the absurdity of seven generations for six hundred years.
