c18.s1.22

The Bhoja mentioned in the above passage is to be identified with Bhoja Paramāra (*circa* 1000-1050 A. D.)², although he has sometimes been equated with Bhoja Pratihāra without sufficient justification³, as the latter had died in *circa* 885 A. D., and the context also does not suggest that the reference is to a king who lived about two centuries earlier. Now, it is important to note that Bhoja’s name occurs in an inscription of the Gāhaḍavāla dynasty, and this would not have much point if he had not made some incursions in the north and for a time established his hegemony over Kanauj. Support for this view may further be found in Merutuṅga’s *Prabandhacintāmaṇi*,⁴ which states that when Bhoja went out for conquests “the king of Kānyakubja is here bent double”.
