Multan was known also for another temple and thence called Pehladpuri. The city was also called Kāśyapapura noticed in Greek histories as Kaspeira. Kāśyapa is supposed to be the father of Hiraṇya-Kaśipu and it is believed this demon ruled here and wanted to kill his son Pralhāda for worshipping Viṣṇu. The temple of Pralhāda at Multan was long famous, an annual mela being held about it on Narasimha’s birth-day. This temple was blown up by an explosion of a powder-magazine in its vicinity about 1859 A. D.
