∗ The Nilgunda inscription of Amoghavarsha 1. dated 866 A.D. states that Amoghavarsha conquered the Gurjaras, of course, of Kanouj and those who dwell in the hill fort of Chitrakūṭa. This shows that Chitore was a substantial kingdom and had come into conflict with the Rāstrakūṭas of the Deccan.
