∗ In Vol. I (p. 221) we said that we did not know who this Śrīkallata (said by Kalhaṇa to be born in the days of Avantivarman for the salvation of the country) was and that we surmised that he was a Vaiṣṇava writer. It appears, however, from Dr. Bhandarkar's Śaivism that he was a Śaiva philosopher but he must have been as above stated an advocate of Ahimsā.
