v1.c6.s7.9

In the time of the Chālukyas of Vātāpi and Veṅgī, and the Rāṣṭrakūṭas of Mānyakheṭa, three designations largely held the field—deśa, maṇḍala, and viṣaya. The term viṣaya occurs most frequently. In the Kanarese areas and certain contiguous tracts we meet with the terms vāḍi (e.g. Gaṅgavāḍi Noḷamba-vāḍi, Naḷa-vāḍi, Māsa-vāḍi, Sinda-vāḍi), kheḍa (e.g. Āḷuvakheḍa), Nāḍ (e.g. Male-nāḍ, Banavāse-nāḍ, Eḍedore-nāḍ, Sindayāḍi-nāḍ),² and Nāḍu (e.g. Vengai-nāḍu).
