v1.c7.s6.72
While Azes I and his successors were ruling as suzerains, their vast Indian dominions were administered by their agents called Satrapas or Kṣatrapas, who exercised almost sovereign powers within their respective jurisdictions. Of the Satrapal families, the most important were those of Takṣaśilā, Mathurā, Surāṣṭra, and Malwa.
