The supposed rise of a mighty Rāṣṭrakūṭa empire in the sixth century cannot therefore be used to explain the disintegration of the Vākāṭaka kingdom. The mystery of its disappearance can be satisfactorily solved only if and when we obtain fresh historical evidence bearing on the point. At present we can offer only tentative suggestions.
