The above paragraphs show that there is much confusion about the location of the nine khaṇḍas of the Purāṇas. To make sense out of this confusion, it will first be necessary to marshall all the facts which are given in any Purāṇa and which are directly or indirectly related to the extent and location of Bhāratavarṣa and its ‘nava khaṇḍas’.
