Kuntala. This janapada has been located by Cunningham to the south of the Gaṅgā near Chunar. If this is correct the Kuntala janapada could correspond to the Mirazapur District of U.P. between the Gaṅgā and Son rivers. A major part of the Gaṅgā-Son doab was covered with forests and woodlands.
