In Hiuen Tsang's time No. (i) above was called Vairāta; No. (ii) was part of Sūrasena, later called Braja; No. (iii) and (iv) were known as Vadari and No. (v) as Gūrjara. Nos. (i) to (v) are included by the Purāṇas in the Madhyadeśa and No. (vi) in the Vindhyan lands.
