*Māhiṣaka*. This janapada covered the southern region of Karnātaka. It occupied the basin of the upper Kāverī and Shimsha river. The Kupatha janapada occupied a position at the foot of the plateau near the south-east ern corner of Karnātaka, west of the Chola and Pāndya janapadas. It corresponded to the modern Coimbatore and part of Salem district.
