Maulika janapada was coterminous with the upper Godāvarī valley with its capital at Paithan which lies on the northern bank of the Godāvarī. It probably covered parts of the Aurangabad, Ahmadnagar, Bhir and Prabhani districts which lie within the basin of the Godāvarī proper.
