Below this janapada and again south of the Narmadā where it receives its southern affluents, the Goi, the Purāṇic janapada of Patavi was probably located at the foothills of the Satpuras which overlook the Narmadā here. The town of Pati a few miles south of Barwani, appears to point to its approximate location.
