The variation of the above mentioned events naturally introduces facts pertaining to descriptive geography—i.e., the various lands, their physical content, their boundaries, their people as well as ideas regarding physical geography, i.e., atmosphere, land and water. The main contribution, however, of the Ṛgveda to the Purāṇic geography is its cosmology and cosmogony which are repeated in the original or modified form in all the Purāṇas.
