The Coḷaraṭṭha is in Southern India. We are told in the Mahāvaṃsa (pp. 166, 197 foll.) that the Damiḷas who once invaded Laṅkā came from the Coḷa country in Southern India. In the same chronicle we read of Damiḷa named Elara who ruled over Ceylon and was noted for his piety and justice. The Damiḷas were, however, driven out of Laṅkā by Duṭṭhagāmiṇī, the greatest king that ever ruled over the island.
