¹ The Sutta Nipāta, however, definitely includes the territory of the Sākyas of Kapilavastu within the kingdom of Kosala. There-in (S.B.E., X, Part II, 67-68) Buddha says, ‘just beside Himavanta there lives a people endowed with the power of wealth, the inhabitants of Kosala. They are Ādicchas (belonging to Aditya family) by family, Sākyas by birth......’ The Majjhima Nikāya (II, 124) too is definite on this point. There-in Pasenadi is recorded to have said, ‘Bhagavā pi Khattiyo, ahaṃ pi Khattiyo, Bhagavā pi Kosalako, ahaṃ pi Kosalako’.
