When the Vajjian monks carried out the act of excommunication against Yasa, he is said to have risen up into the sky and descended at Kauśāmbī.¹ The *Mahāvaṃsa* tells us, however, that the venerable Yasa is said to have fled from Vaiśālī to Kauśāmbī just before the assembly of the second Buddhist Council.²
