In the *Harivaṃśa*,³ we have ‘Madrābhīrāḥ’ (Madras and Ābhīras) where we would expect to find ‘Śūdrābhīrāḥ’; here Madra may be a misreading for Śūdra, for the Madras are hardly anywhere connected with the Ābhīras.⁴
