Jāṅgalas Pargiter rightly suggests that the Jāṅgalas are the same as the people of Kurujāṅgalas. Kuru-jāṅgala, that is, the waste land of the Kurus, was the eastern part of their territory and appears to have comprised the tract between the Ganges and North Pañcāla.⁸ The Jāṅgalas are mentioned with the Kurus and contiguous tribes. So Pargiter’s assumption seems to be correct, for we do not hear of any other people of this name mentioned in ancient literature or inscription.
