*Suktimatī*.—The Kosam Inscription of the reign of Mahārāja Vaiśravana of the year 107 refers to this locality, which was probably in the neighbourhood of Kauśāmbi. This city is mentioned in the *Cetiya Jātaka* (No. 422) as Sotthivatinagara (E.I., XXIV, Pt. IV). It was the capital of the Cedi king named Dhṛṣṭaketu (*Mahābhārata*, III, 22). It stood on the river of the same name which is described in the *Mahābhārata* as one of the rivers of Bhāratavarṣa (Bhīṣmaparva, VI, 9).
