*Baḍal*.—It is in the Dinajpur district of North Bengal. A pillar inscription of the time of Nārāyaṇapāla has been discovered at a distance of three miles from this place. A pillar containing the figure of a mythical bird Garuḍa was found here (*E.I.*, II, 160-167). The Baḍal Pillar Inscription of the time of Guḍavamiśra credits king Devapāla with having eradicated the race of the Utkalas along with the pride of the Hūṇas.
