*Candranātha*.—This peak is regarded as a place beloved of Śiva, for here, tradition relates, the right arm of Satī fell when severed by the disk of Viṣṇu. It is in the Chittagong district and is visited by pilgrims from all parts of Bengal. In the vicinity of Sītākuṇḍa stands the temple of Candranātha and Śambhunātha. The shrine on the top of the hill contains a *liṅgam* or symbolical representation of Śiva and the ascent to it is said to redeem the pilgrim from the miseries of future births.
