Pāpahāriṇī.—Name of a hill in Bihar. There is a beautiful tank at the foot of the Pāpahāriṇī hill, which is frequented by the people on the last day of the month of Pauṣ, when the image of Madhusudana is brought to a temple at the foot of the hill from Bamśi. This tank was caused to be excavated by Koṇadevi, the wife of Ādityasena, who became the independent sovereign of Magadha in the 7th century, after the kingdom of Kanauj was broken up on the death of Harṣavardhana (*C.I.I.*, III, 211).
