Two inscriptions of Rājendra Chola, dated respectively in 1017-18 and 1022-23 A.D., refer to his conquest of Kaṭāha or Kaḍāram (Keddah) beyond the sea, and several inscriptions of later periods, beginning from A.D. 1024-5, give a detailed account of his over-sea conquests giving a long list of countries over-run by him. It is, therefore, probable that hostilities broke out in or before A.D. 1018⁹ and culminated in the final overthrow of the Śailendras in A.D. 1025 or earlier.
