To the south of Mithilā there were a large number of Hindu kingdoms along the homage and allegiance to the king and dedicating the life to his service, as well as the names of district officers, numbering more than four thousand, who took it in the presence of the sacred fire, the Brāhmaṇas and the *ācāryas*.
