Starting from *The Bower Manuscript*, the discovery of these ancient manuscripts directly stimulated M A Stein. In 1990, he began his first exploration to the Western Regions, which initiated an international wave of archaeological exploration to this area. It was the wave of large-scale investigation, exploration and cultural relic collection that eventually enabled Dunhuang Studies and Turpan Studies to be the international knowledge branches attracting much attention in the 20thcentury.
