v2.c13.22
During the 1ˢᵗ century CE, the cultural contacts between India and China along the southern sea route continued uninterrupted. The *Hou Hanshu, Xiyuzhuan* records that during the reign of Hedi (89-105 CE), several envoys were sent to offer tribute from “Tianzhu guo” (India). This was disrupted later when revolts broke out in the western regions. It says: “Arriving in the second and fourth years of the Yanxi reign period of Huandi (Emperor Huan), they would frequently come from the borders outside of the region of Rinan (the present-day coastal region of Vietnam) and offer their tribute.”
