In the *Ratna Saṃgraha*¹⁵⁵ (S. 18) the Masārgarbha is accredited with the property to separate milk and water. It is said to be dark blue or green in colour. In Chinese it is called Kan-che-yü or violet stone which connects it with amethyst. The uncertain word śyāma used to indicate its colour may mean both green and blue and the stone therefore may be amethyst or jade.
