¹ The tradition about Banavāsi having been the capital of the Kuntala country was remembered even after the foundation of the Kuntala-Karṇāṭa (Kanarese) empire. For a tenth century record mentioning the Kuntala king residing at *Vanavāsa*, indicating the city as well as 'exile', see *Ep. Ind.*, Vol. XXII, p.132. It has to be remembered that, in the age in question, the capital of the said empire was at Mālkheḍ in the old Hyderabad State.
