² As we have shown elsewhere, the Tantrasāra was composed in the first half of the seventeenth century. See The Śākta Pīṭhas, p. 80. Reference has been made to a manuscript of this work bearing the date ‘Saṃvat 1586’ (Gode, Studies, Vol. I, pp. 154 ff., Poleman, Census of Indic Manuscripts in U. S. A, etc.). But Saṃvat in this case seems to be a misreading for Śaka.
