Avanti is described as extending from the Tāmraparṇī as far as the northern side of some hills and as the place of the goddess Kālikā. This Tāmraparṇī is an unknown river and not the celebrated rivulet of that name in the extreme south of India.¹ The hills referred to may be the Western Vindhyas.
