A passage in the later strata of the *Ṛgveda*⁴² speaks of Soma on the lap of the nakṣatras probably meaning ‘the lunar mansions’. The *Taittirīya*⁴³ and *Kāṭhaka*⁴⁴ Saṃhitās mention Soma as married to the nakṣatras whose number in given in lists as 27 (beginning with Kṛttikā) or 28 (counting Abhijit).⁴⁵
