⁵⁸ Vinaśana is mentioned in the Pañcaviṃśa Brāhmaṇa (xxv. 10. 6), Jaiminīya Upaniṣad Brāhmaṇa (iv. 26) and some other works of later Vedic literature. The Mahābhārata (iii. 82. 111) applies the name Vinaśana to the place where the Sarasvatī disappears while medieval lexicons identify Vinaśana, the western boundary of Āryāvarta according to the Manusmṛti, with Kurukṣetra. The Taittirīya Āraṇyaka (viii. 21. 12) mentions the maru (deserts) as the utkara (i.e. mound of earth thrown up from the excavation of an altar) of Kurukṣetra.
