This land has the Kalpa-vṛkṣa. Its homeless inhabitants have no property, no wives and no work. Corn ripens and rice boils there by themselves. Food never runs short in Uttara-Kuru, and a pot of rice from that land would never be exhausted. The inhabitants ride on cows or human beings. They surpass the Trayastriṃśa gods in four things—no greed, no private property, no definite term of life, and possession of elegance.²⁸
