⁸⁵ Mārkaṇḍeya, 57. Al-Bīrūnī wrongly reads Sāgarasaṃvṛta as Nagarasaṃvṛta (Sachau, op. cit., Vol. i, p. 295). The extent of the ninth division from Kumārikya to the source of the Gaṅgā seems to be given as 9,000 yojanas (Vāyu, 45. 81—āyato hy=ā Kumārikyād=ā Gaṅgāprabhavāc=ca vai | tiryag=uttara-vistīrṇaḥ sahasrāṇi nav=aiva tu).
