Magadha—people of the Patna-Gaya region of South Bihar, though their inclusion among the people of the Madhya-deśa may be due to confusion since the Magadhas are also mentioned in the list of the peoples of the Eastern Division. It is interesting to note that Magadha in South Bihar lay in the Madhya-deśa not according to the Brahmanical authors, but in the opinion of the Buddhist writers.
