We may here notice that Yuan-chuang places the houses of Vimalakīrti, Ratnākara, and Āmrapālī outside the city, while the canonical works represent them as being inside the city. But this discrepancy may be due to the pilgrim's taking a narrow technical view of what constituted the city.
