v2.c19.31

We do not seem to have any information about these buried treasures of the king called Nanda. This was the name of the dynasty which was succeeded by that of the Mauryas under Chandragupta. In the „Mahāvamsa” the last ruler of the former dynasty is called Dhana-Nanda, who seems to have also had the name Mahāpadma, and perhaps Chandramas.² In the “Divyā- vadāna” we have Nanda given as the name of Asoka's grand-father Chandragupta, and in another treatise we have a wise but conceited king Nanda who is outwitted by Nāgasena.¹ But we do not find mention of treasures hidden by any one of these.
